"Saying that the time on a clock is relevant to our doomsday is like showing a picture of oxygen to a man who is drowning."
-Dr. Manhattan, from "Watchmen"
Death is going to happen sooner or later, and we can't stop it. eventually we will die, and theres nothing in our power to do anything about it, besides prolonging our life expectancy as we have seen in the Final Destination movies, but we all see where they end up.
This shouldnt change the way we live or what we do. If I want to live in Miami, knowing that theres many gangs in that area, and knowing i could be shot, so be it.
For that matter, why should 2012 matter at all? what if some of us die before 2012? this date shouldnt matter to us because death is inevitable, and this date is irrelevant to what happens to us. And lets say 2012 does happen.... why are we going green? helping the planet become healthier just so it can explode? its nonsense.
So why do people say "Live like we were dying" ?
We are all already dying, every second that goes by is a second closer to death.
Maybe, we should all live like we are never going to die...
And by that I don't mean go jump off a building, we aren't invincible.
But to live patiently, we have all the time in the world to do things, we don't need to try to experience life and all its wonders by the time we're 18. Saying you've went streaking and you went to different colleges or states to party or trying some minor drug, simply does not mean you have lived.
You can't force yourself to be okay with death, it takes time.
We are all scared when wee see death coming, but we learn to accept, but saying you're ok with it is just a euphemism for you don't want to die but there's nothing you can do about it.
So, live life. ACTUALLY live life. don't take in peoples' general thoughts of how to live. Everyone has their definition of life at some point, and you should be able to live long enough to figure out your own. When death comes, be ready.
That quote is straight fire! I love the watchmen.
